SERIES OVERVIEW
Carbide HRC65 Rainbow Ball Nose End Mill for Hardened Mold Steel
BOFA HRC65 rainbow ball nose end mills are a coated solid-carbide solution for profile and curved-surface machining. Review the series details below and contact BOFA for compatible dimensions.
Application support
Send your material, required radius, cutting length and machine details for BOFA tool-selection and quotation support.
Applications and material selection
Ball-nose geometry for 3D profiling, contouring and curved-surface finishing. Hardened steel and mould-material applications; confirm the exact grade and measured hardness before cutting.
Engineering specification fields
| Field | Published value / required confirmation |
|---|---|
| Series hardness | HRC65 is the BOFA series designation; confirm workpiece HRC/HB. |
| Substrate | Solid carbide; exact grade code, grain size and cobalt content require BOFA datasheet confirmation. |
| Coating | Rainbow coating is the series name; chemistry and thickness must be confirmed on the datasheet. |
| Geometry | Ball-nose geometry for 3D profiling, contouring and curved-surface finishing. |
| Size and reach | Confirm ball radius, cutting length, shank and overall length from the current series chart. |
| Spindle speed / feed / depth | Condition-card values based on material, diameter, engagement, overhang, holder and coolant. |
| Machine interface | State spindle taper, holder type and gauge length; use the shortest safe overhang. |
| Tolerance / runout | Specify diameter/length tolerance and tool-tip runout measurement position in the RFQ. |
| Insert match | Not applicable: solid-carbide end mill with no replaceable insert. |
Frequently asked questions
What geometry is this series designed for?
Ball-nose geometry for 3D profiling, contouring and curved-surface finishing.
Which workpiece materials can I machine?
Send the exact material grade—mould steel, carbon/alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminium or another alloy—and its measured HRC/HB. Geometry and coating must be confirmed for the actual material.
What does the HRC65 series number mean?
HRC65 is the BOFA series designation, not a universal workpiece hardness limit. Allowable hardness depends on material, heat treatment, diameter, overhang and operation.
What carbide grade and coating are supplied?
The current product summary does not publish a grade code, grain size or cobalt percentage. Rainbow coating is the series name; chemistry and thickness must be confirmed on the datasheet. Request the BOFA datasheet before ordering.
How do I choose rpm, feed and depth of cut?
Provide tool size, material and hardness, operation, overhang, holder, coolant and target finish. BOFA can return rpm, feed per tooth, table feed, axial depth and radial engagement for the setup.
Which holder, tolerance and runout should I specify?
State spindle taper, holder type, gauge length, diameter/length tolerance and tool-tip runout target. The current product summary does not publish guaranteed values, so BOFA will confirm them before quotation.
Technical RFQ — product pre-filled
Send the exact radius, reach, material, hardness, holder interface, tolerance/runout, quantity and drawing.
ENGINEERING DATA
Selection data for a technical quotation.
Use the published chart and series attributes where available. For a safe recommendation, send the fields below; BOFA will return the matching geometry, insert and cutting-condition card for your machine.
| Decision field | What to provide or verify | BOFA quotation output |
|---|---|---|
| Published series attributes | HRC65 · Rainbow Coating · Ball Nose · Request a Quote | Confirm the exact model and size chart row |
| Workpiece material and hardness | Exact grade plus measured HRC or HB; include stainless, cast iron, aluminium or mould-steel condition | Recommended grade, geometry and coating |
| Speed, feed and depth | Target RPM or cutting speed, feed units / fz / Vf, axial ap and radial ae | Condition card for the selected diameter and operation |
| Geometry and reach | Diameter or ball radius, flute count, cutting length, overall length, helix and coating | Compatible standard or custom configuration |
| Insert and interface | For indexable tools: body model, insert code, screw and wrench. For solid tools: spindle taper, shank, holder and gauge length | Compatibility check before ordering |
| Tolerance and runout | Required tool-tip runout and diameter / length tolerance | Achievable value confirmed on drawing or datasheet |
| Cooling and maximum engagement | Dry, air blast, MQL or flood coolant with pressure / flow; state required machining depth | Safe engagement guidance; do not infer a limit from cutting length alone |
