How do I choose a face milling cutter diameter?
Start with the machine spindle, workpiece width, required depth of cut and available insert grade. Choose a cutter that covers the surface with stable engagement without exceeding the machine or arbor capacity. Send the material and current tool model to BOFA for a practical match.
What is the difference between a solid carbide end mill and an indexable cutter?
A solid carbide end mill is a one-piece tool for accurate slotting, profiling and finishing. An indexable cutter uses replaceable inserts and is often preferred for larger diameters, roughing or lower-cost edge replacement. The best choice depends on material, removal rate and machine rigidity.
Which end mill is suitable for hardened steel, stainless steel or aluminum?
Use the workpiece material, hardness, machine rigidity and coolant method to select geometry and coating. BOFA HRC55 series end mills cover common hardened-steel work, while dedicated geometries and cutting data should be confirmed for stainless steel and aluminum.
What information is needed for a custom CNC milling tool quotation?
Share a drawing or model, material and hardness, machining operation, machine and spindle interface, tool diameter, reach, insert or flute preference, quantity and target delivery. A photo of the current tool or workpiece is also useful.
